Southeastern announces station improvement programme
Southeastern has announced a sweeping, £2 million station improvement and deep clean programme involving over 100 of their stations. The work is due to take place over a six month period, starting now and wrapping up no later than March 2025.
The planned improvements are fairly minor, with public areas and customer facilities being repainted, repaired, and replaced where needed. Deep cleans will take place alongside Southeastern's usual cleaning schedule.
The announcement comes as the train operating company sees more passengers using its services, having "recorded a post-pandemic record of 400,000 entries and exits at its London stations." The number of journeys across April–June 2024 "was over 7% higher than the same period in 2023."
The work should ensure that Southeastern's patch of the National Rail network remains fit for new and returning passengers alike.
These ambitions will also be reflected in the operator's upcoming December timetable, with "220 additional services every week" set to be added.

“Our stations are the first and last impression our customers receive and that is why we are continually working to ensure they’re at the highest possible standard
“We run a growing railway, with over 400,000 journeys in and out of London on our busiest days and this further investment in our stations, alongside our expanded timetable, will help to further increase customer numbers and support our wider communities.”
David Wornham, Passenger Services Director, Southeastern
There was mention of other work, too — "new waiting shelters, seating and retail refurbishments" — which will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
