Engineering work to close Windsor line next week

The Windsor line between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside stations will be closed between Saturday, 22 and Friday, 28 March 2025.
Some South Western Railway (SWR) services will not run on these days. Passengers will still be able to travel, albeit by rail replacement bus.
The engineering work was scheduled by Network Rail, the company that owns and manages rail infrastructure across Great Britain. Over the weekend, it is due to perform track maintenance and upgrades, plus structural repairs to the bridge crossing the River Wey. New sleepers will also be installed around Feltham.
During the week, 700 metres of new track will be laid across the Black Potts Railway Bridge, which crosses the River Thames. Pedestrian walkways will be widened at May's Level Crossing in Datchet.
The exact changes to SWR services are as follows:
- Between Saturday, 22 March and Friday, 28 March, buses replace trains between Staines and Windsor.
- On Saturday, 22 March, buses also replace trains between Hounslow and Virginia Water.
- On Sunday, 23 March, buses also replace trains between Hounslow, Ascot, and Woking.
"We know that closing this large stretch of railway to the south west of London will be disruptive and we would like to apologise to passengers for the inconvenience this work will cause.
"We started work on this project in 2023 to renew the railway in the Windsor area and this work will allow passengers to enjoy smoother and more reliable journeys for years to come."
Mark Goodall, Wessex Route Director, Network Rail
