Write For Us

Hello, my name is Seb. I am the Editor and Founder of To The Trains, and I am looking to commission articles and fact files. If you are interested in getting involved, it would be great to hear from you.

Contributing to To The Trains doesn't carry any obligations — you are welcome to pitch as many or as few articles as you choose. You will be compensated for your work at a negotiable rate, depending on your experience, the subject matter, and the length of your article.* Where agreed beforehand, reasonable expenses can also be paid.

That said, if you don't have a specific article in mind, you are still welcome to express your interest more generally. There may be existing projects I'm working on that you could lend a hand with. The primary goal of To The Trains is to document Britain's railways, and if this is something that interests you then it would be great to have you on board.

If you need a few ideas: I would like to see more news reporting, opinion articles and commentary on aspects or the general state of the railway, reviews of railway-themed products (e.g., books, simulation games), and trip reports, among others. This is not an exhaustive list, though, and I would encourage you to get in touch either way.

If this sounds interesting, send me an email.

*Some more on compensation: This is flexible. If you are already a well-established writer, you would be well within reason to expect more compensation than, say, a student journalist. At the same time, if that student journalist writes an incredibly detailed piece on something in the news, that would call for a higher rate than a short fact file with information sourced from the internet. With all the variables, there isn't a base rate. So, please, feel free to be up-front about what you're expecting, and we'll work from there.
